Types of Massage:
Thai Massage
Created over 2000 years ago, and is still widely practiced
today. Thai Massage is a combination of gentle rocking, range
of motion, acupressure, reflexology, energy work and stretching,
a form of passive yoga. Joints are loosened and opened through
manipulation and peripheral stimulation, muscles are stretched,
internal organs are toned, vitality is increased and a deep
state of relaxation can be achieved. The work is very rhythmical
and meditative.
The massage is done on a floor mat with the client wearing
loose, comfortable clothing. This gives the practitioner a
lot of leverage and the ability to use their body very effectively.
It also allows for movements that are not as effective, or
impossible on a table. Therapists are trained to respect everyone's
varied amount of flexibility and can therefore benefit the
limber athlete, as well as those who are not very limber,
by stretching everyone to their own personal limits.
Swedish Massage
The most common form of massage, Swedish mainly relaxes the
muscles and eases aches and pains. Swedish Massage is a system
of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more
superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and
passive movements of the joints.
Deep Tissue Massage
As the name implies, a Deep tissue massage releases the chronic
patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep
finger pressure on contracted areas, either following or going
across the grain of muscles, tendons, and fascia. It can be
used for specific work or full-body.
Hot Rock Stone Therapy
Warm stones are placed strategically on the back. The whole
body is then massaged with the rocks. The heat component makes
it good for arthritic patients as well as warming the muscles
for a deep tissue massage. Also relieves pressure from PMS
through the relaxing heat.
Sports Massage
For the athlete, sports massage techniques are utilized at
all stages: pre-event, post-event, during training and to
expedite rehabilitation after injury.
Corporate Seated Massage - On-Site Seated
Massage
Is administered while the client is clothed and seated in
a specially designed chair. These chairs most often slope
forward allowing access to the large muscles of the back.
On-site massage usually lasts between 15 and 30 minutes and
is intended to relax and improve circulation
Pregnancy Massage
Massage during pregnancy not only makes a woman feel pampered,
but offers undeniable physical benefits as well. Massage can
relieve fatigue, enhance sleep and calm an active baby. Many
pregnancy massage specialists integrate a variety of techniques
into their work. Depending upon where you are in the pregnancy,
the therapist may utilize reflexology, Swedish massage or
very light shiatsu.
